 THE MISSION

Our mission at POISE Academy is to empower young ladies ages 7 to 15 to be poised, dynamic, and powerful leaders of society by enhancing their self-awareness, skills, and intellect to build a personal image that will lead to success throughout their entire lives. Our girls deserve more support than formal education can provide, as well as a safe space to cultivate the leadership skills, emotional IQ, and social capital needed to compete and excel in the 21st century.

POISE Academy aims to appreciate and uplift girls, to counteract the social constructs that work to disempower them. Our curriculum is designed to shift their perspective on the way they see themselves, and the world around them. Increasing personal and social competence in young people enables them to better execute their goals successfully and thrive. Lastly, finding healthy, intentional ways to interact with peers is crucial to the success and mental health of our children. Invest in the hearts and minds of your young and join the movement today.

 Curriculum Overview

POISE Academy's curriculum focuses heavily on personal growth, building a positive relationship with self, character development, and socio-emotional intelligence. As a new theme is introduced every month, the spring program is split into four parts as follows:

orientation: I AM!

January 22nd

Identity, Self-Love, & Self-Esteem

Emotional Intelligence Focus: Self-Awareness

Each one of us has things that make us beautiful and unique. High self-esteem allows us to have a positive, happy, successful life. Additionally, the actions we take must support our physical, psychological, and spiritual growth. In this course, participants will increase self-awareness and begin to identify what they love and appreciate about themselves. As a result, they will shift their mindsets around how they see themselves as they learn to operate from a state of feeling good about themselves.

PART 1: SOCIALLY SAVVY

January 25th - February 9th

Conversational Skills, Social Scenarios, & Dining Etiquette

Emotional Intelligence Focus: Relationships

Striking a conversation with people we’re not familiar with can be awkward and uncomfortable. In this course, participants will discover how small talk, simple questions, and active listening can enhance social interactions. Participants will be walked through various social scenarios that require critical thinking, self-advocacy, and conflict management skills. By having students think critically about how they might interact in a given situation, they are proactively developing crucial social skills that will benefit all aspects of their lives whether personal, academic, or professional.

Lastly, in preparation for the holiday season and life, young ladies will develop dining etiquette. Through a virtual restaurant tour and a mock dining experience, girls will increase their fine-dining vocabulary and get hands-on practice in a safe space.

PART 2: SELF-CARE FOR GIRLS

February 22nd - March 16th

Grooming, Feminine Hygiene, & Period Talk

Emotional Intelligence Focus: Responsibility

Self-care entails the conscious act one takes to promote their own physical, mental, and emotional health. This includes grooming and exercising proper hygiene. In this course, girls will discover some grooming and hygiene tips as they increase their understanding of their bodies and menstrual cycles. Grooming and hygiene affect how we think, feel, and act. Moreover, they make us look presentable and give us the confidence we need while moving throughout our day.

More education is needed on menstrual cycles, and how to manage the journey of young womanhood as it pertains to an evolving female body. Self-care practices benefit our self-confidence, self-esteem, emotions, and actions, and they enhance our health and beauty.

PART 3: THE POWER OF POSITIVITY!

March 29th- April 13th

Confidence, Positive Thinking, & Positive Self-Talk

Emotional Intelligence Focus: Self-Motivation

Everyone admires a confident person, but very few people are born with lots and lots of confidence. Typically, those who are confident have worked to build it for years. In this course, girls will revisit what makes them unique as they learn to grow confidence based on their identity, traits, talents, and gifts. Furthermore, they will increase their understanding of the power of positive thinking and language. How we talk to ourselves shapes and molds our behavior and outcomes. Learning to focus on the good in any given situation allows us more creative control over our lives. Girls will learn exactly how positive thinking creates a positive life.

**Participants must have wifi access and Zoom to participate.**

Studies at Harvard University, the Carnegie Foundation, and Stanford found that 85% of future success depends on social skills. Adults with soft skills are more employable, more engaged in civic life, and more involved in their education. When we introduce habits of excellence early, children have a better chance of developing self-awareness which can be advantageous in any scenario. After attending POISE Academy, our young ladies will be better able to move effortlessly through any situation and among various groups of people.
